WordPress Portsmouth Online Meetup – 19th May 2021 – Full Site Editing (FSE)

Join the WordPress Portsmouth Online Meetup on 19th May 2021 for an introduction to Full Site Editing (FSE) using the WordPress Site Editor (beta), with Herb Miller.

With the working title of “A guide to Full Site Editing, plugins and themes”, Herb will demonstrate the Full Site Editing experience currently available using the Gutenberg plugin and WordPress 5.7

Using his new experimental Full Site Editing theme called “ThisIs…” Herb will show you:

  • how to get started
  • the components of the Site Editor
  • example templates and template parts
  • some of the blocks used to create FSE themes
  • example themes
  • a very few code samples
  • some answers to FAQs
  • how to become involved
  • what’s missing and future plans
  • and many links to other resources

Visit the site at https://sneak-peek.me for additional resources, and https://blocks.wp-a2z.org for the full list of blocks in Gutenberg and the FSE themes referenced.

For more details on the components that make up the ThisIs… FSE theme, see the GitHub repository bobbingwide/thisis.

The event starts at 7pm GMT (7pm UTC). We will be providing a Zoom link for you to connect to the online Meetup.

To get the link, please register to attend this #OnlineWPMeetup.

Parts of the meeting were recorded and made available on YouTube, with a tiny bit of editing.

Attendee’s introductions – an example

Attendees introductions are optional. If you do tell us about yourself then we’ll get a better understanding of your WordPress knowledge and how you use it. Here’s what I might say.

I’m Herb Miller, the initiating organiser of WP-Pompey. I started using WordPress about 11 years ago. I’m a (retired) software engineer. I mostly develop WordPress plugins. Recently I’ve become very interested in the Gutenberg block editor’s work on Full Site Editing, which is still very much under construction. I’ve developed three experimental FSE themes. Fizzie and SB are used to display the contents of online catalogues. The 3rd is “ThisIs…”

I live in Rowlands Castle with my wife Susan and two cats, Bramble and Marmalade and three white bears, Fuzzy Duck, Ducky Fuzz and the other one.
