Join the Online WordPress Portsmouth Meetup on Wednesday 19th February 2025 for “Site and Block editor Show and Tell”, where attendees will offer their hints and tips for using the site and block editor.
Background
The Gutenberg block editor was first delivered as part of WordPress core in WordPress 5.0 ( December 2018 ). The Full Site Editor (FSE) followed in WordPress 5.9 ( 2022 ).
- You can create and edit your content with the Block editor.
- You can use the Site editor to edit block themes.
Block themes are built for the newer functionality in WordPress and allow you to use blocks to edit all parts of your site, including easier ways to quickly customize everything from your background colours to font sizes for all Heading blocks etc.
Comparatively, classic themes are built with PHP templates, functions.php and more that include features like Widgets, a dedicated Menus section, the Customizer, and more. Classic themes do not work with the Site Editor.
The idea of this meetup is quite simple. Those of us who have used the Site editor to edit and/or create block based themes will attempt to guide others.

All levels of experience of WordPress and website publishing welcome. We are a learning and development group. We welcome WordPress beginners.
