A google for
site:nhs.uk +"Powered by WordPress" gives 4500+ results. Despite many people saying ‘WordPress isnt used in the NHS’, it really really is.
Completely outside of any individuals or even any individual organisations control, the NHS is around 20,000 distinct entities all under one banner. Many of them have their own IT leads, their own comms dept and their own take on what they need to do with the web. The best we can do is lead and show a better way and hope others follow.
Tony is part of an NHS team that has developed a new theme for WordPress based on an HTML/CSS library the NHS has put out. There is also a companion plugin for the content styling and layout, using Gutenberg. The project is open-sourced and welcomes contributors and involvement from the community.
Tony is a Full Stack Developer at the NHS Leadership Academy.
He’s a full time web geek with a penchant for front end theming, and an a11y ally.
